Time for the nitty-gritty; Measurements. Entry level kits can often display up to two or even three mm discrepancies when cross measuring the diameter of the shells, and similarly up to two mm from “level” to high and low spots of the bearing edge. The Midtowns however boast tolerances more in line with intermediate drums. None of the shells are more than 1 mm “Out-of-Round” and the bearing edge “trueness” remains within 1 mm throughout the kit. These are very impressive results in this price range. The bearing edges themselves are smooth, consistent and without flaws. The design of the kit is inspired by Pearl’s Reference Series, meaning there are plenty of high-quality build features that make the kit feel and look incredible. You can tell a quality drumset right from the first glance. It is the impression it gives you, then that should tell you what you need to know. And Pearl Midtown is no different. I also made sure to test Pearl kits at different prices. While there are several high-end Pearl options, I think some of the biggest value that Pearl offers is in the brand’s cheaper sets. Especially when compared to playing drums for other styles, where you can dampen the drums to get better sounds.

Heads: Remo UT Clear on toms. Coated on Snare Clear, Muffled on Bass Batter and Coated, Muffled on Bass Resonance. The Midtown shows tolerances as you would expect in an intermediate solution. Every shell comes less than 1-mm’ out-of-round.’ Also, the ‘trueness’ of the bearing edges was with one mm with the whole kit. Sonor’s Jungle kits set the quintessential blueprint for a lot of micro/compact setups in the ‘90s. Taking aim squarely at the growing trend for drummers wanting to emulate the higher-pitched sampled sounds heard in drum’n’bass and hip-hop, the Jungle’s popularity became something of a catch-all eponym for kits of this size. Fast forward to today, though, and the configuration is called ‘Safari’ and is available as part of Sonor’s AQ2 series. The market for small drum kits has been swelling over the past few years. We all know how important a quality set it for any drummer – beginners and professionals alike. This is why drummers will spend huge amounts of money just to get their hands on the perfect drum set.

When testing each kit, I assessed their sonic performance, build quality, and versatility. I wanted to see what made each Pearl kit so good, and then I compared that to the quality that you get from other kits. Pearl has not left any stone unturned with the development of this premium-priced drum set, which is offered in a selection of stunning lacquer finishes. My experience with each kit allowed me to fine-tune and assess each kit’s sonic capabilities, to ensure they are easy to tune and deliver fantastic tones that drummers seek across various genres.

Maple and mahogany are the best shell types for jazz, as maple kits have warm and resonant tones and mahogany kits have vintage low-end warmth. They also come with a matching wrap on the outside. Any drummer will tell you these are better features than what others promise. The Pearl Midtown Series drum set delivers premium quality at a really great price. This is certainly one of the best compact drum kits available, and these drums are incredibly enjoyable to play. The Roadshow Series is always going to be a top recommendation for first-time drummers, and I was just as impressed with this jazz version of the kit as I was when trying the main version. If you have been following keenly, there is so far everything good you can expect from a remarkable drum with the Pearl Midtown. Pearl had an incredibly good run with their Export kits. They became the most popular drum set in the world at one point. You can still easily find Export kits being used all over, and the hardware pieces from those kits are still standing strong. That’s one good example of how great Pearl’s hardware is. Prices

I was also impressed with how easy it was to set this kit up. It did not take me more than 15 minutes to get everything ready. The final result was a little bop kit with a wonderful positive vibe about it. However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers. Although originally designed for children, it’s also found favor amongst experienced adult drummers as a compact, gigging kit. Cheaper compact drum kits are either made from hardwood or poplar. These are inexpensive woods to use, and the drums made with them aren’t as musically responsive as higher-quality woods. One of the qualities that Pearl kits are most well-known for is their hardware. No matter which Pearl drum set you’re getting, it’s going to have heavy-duty hardware that will last decades. I have been keenly following up on this kit’s use and was impressed by how many drummers love it already. I will therefore be talking about this beautiful Pearl Midtown drum kit in this review and guide the article. About Small drums One thing I like about Pearl is its focus on finer details. They never leave anything to chance, which creates a market of highly reputable and helpful products.
