This makes for an interesting conflict which ends up heading to the courtroom as Lucille sets about stopping Tammy from giving her child up for adoption. With her eye sight failing Tula (Ann-Margret - Any Given Sunday) has resigned herself to the inevitable living a solitary life in her large lake side home.

How they got away with this film is unbelievable its bad enough children being abused but did they have to make a film like this we know this goes on and this was awful 😖 😱 i was sickened by this it should've been banned come back mary whitehouse all is forgiven.

Causing the audience to want to help her or for her to admit she needs help but she is so shaken by the fear of threats made against her that she believes that these threats will become realities if she speaks to someone about it. At first, the game is harmless, but the girl becomes visibly uncomfortable when she is then asked to remove a man's underwear as a joke. Its is also wrong on many social work fronts, for example the author seems not to be aware that the police have a specialist child protection units based in many big towns with nationwide coverage.

One of the main reasons for my decision was that the film might help other children in situations like hers. I was sexually abused at the hands of both my biological father and my maternal cousin and there was no justice for me even though I put off all of the CLASSIC signs of child sexual abuse. The way the care system was CPS was bound by red tape demonstrates the systems failings on some of our most vulnerable in society, the betrayal of the care home worker demonstrates the type of people who pray on people in this situation.

I’m also mixed on the addition of Britpop to the soundtrack as Britpop is my favourite genre of music but I feel the songs they chose don’t particularly fit the themes of the film and they seem extremely lighthearted for a subject matter so dark (especially the appearance from the Lightning Seeds). In addition to Essie's perspective, we also ge Kerry's father, Jim, a construction worker, attempts to manipulate her into prostitution, something she is unaware of until a few truck drivers "borrow" her. The story of social worker Alex Lake's involvement with the heartbreaking case of Ottilie Wade was engrossing, uncomfortable and somewhat disappointing to read.

Some readers might find this novel hard to digest since it is very sickening to read on on some parts. Feeling helpless, Kerry frequently visits her class teacher and tries to move in with him, but he is unable to care for her. However one very telling review on Goodreads from a reader I really respect - Laurel-Rain, had given it 5 stars so that was a good start!

I didn't like Brian throughout the whole book for the way he acted towards Alex amongst other things which I can't reveal without spoiling the story. So when evil people who are disgraceful, corrupt and unkind like what my country is dealing with from our current president, people have to realize what we are showing our kids and the trash they take in on a day to day basis will have disastrous and horrifying consequences not just for their generation but for the ones to come. It was quite hard to choose how to rate this book because the subject matter was so awful and some of the content quite horrific. While this novel is set in the UK, I do think that there are definite parallels and issues that the UK and the United States share. The attraction of Alex for the child is kind of weird and pounded in as if we might miss it, and I found this a distraction. What this poor girl went through with both her mother, father and all others around her was just terrible. I was not happy with the ending as I believed that Ottilie deserved professional help for all that she'd been through, and for Alex to take her away like that was not the answer, no matter how much she wanted to come to her aid. Look at Jimmy Saville the infamous pedophile of the UK, nothing happened to him and he died a free man. Tracy Nelson plays off of this brilliantly as the quieter and stressed Tammy who wants her mother's approval but never seems able to meet her standards or do as her mother wants.
